The Opportunity
A century-old brick chimney on a Waterbury home had been the source of persistent leaks for years despite multiple repair attempts by other contractors. The homeowners were ready to remove the chimney entirely until we identified the root cause: improperly layered step flashing that had been patched over rather than properly replaced.

Before
The chimney flashing consisted of four layers of competing repair attempts, none properly integrated with the roof system. Tar and caulk had been liberally applied over cracked lead flashing. The cricket behind the chimney had failed, allowing water to pool against the masonry. Interior water staining extended 8 feet from the chimney.
The Outcome
We stripped all existing flashing down to clean masonry and roof deck. New step flashing, counter-flashing, and a properly built chimney cricket were installed with copper for maximum longevity. The chimney was re-pointed where needed and sealed. Three Connecticut winters later, not a single drop of water has entered the home.
